Typefaces – Fonts . . . I have THOUSANDS! Unfortunately not all of them work well on a fishing rod.  I have put together four collections of typefaces to show SERIF styles like Times New Roman, block or SANS SERIF such as Arial and a nice collection of SCRIPT faces for the real classy look. In addition to the three styles above, I have included a set of typefaces that I call FUN SCRIPTS . . . you just have to see these to enjoy them. These collections are only the beginning. As I discover additional typefaces in my archives that I see might work well on rods, I will add to the displays and update the .pdf files for all to enjoy. These collections can be viewed by downloading the .PDF files and keeping them on your computer or printing them out for ready reference.

These files need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print. I chose to use .PDF files because Adobe Acrobat Reader allows the best resolution of the page to be dislayed and the quality is only limited by your monitor resolution. If you don’t currently have Acrobat Reader on your computer, just click the icon at left to download the latest version of Reader.

The majority of the typefaces I use are Adobe Type 1 Postscript but I can utilize True Type and the new Adobe Open Type faces. Just let me see what you need and I am sure I have it somewhere!!!

With all of the thousands of typefaces we see in the business place today, picking one for a custom rods shouldn't be all that difficult. Let the customer see the selection and between both of you, it can be decided which one will look the best. The choices can run from very simple like Arial to one of the Old English styles with various scripts somewhere in the middle.

Most script fonts will not work well when used as all capital letters. Script type faces work best when using upper and lowercase letters.

I will show some of the decal creations as time progresses on the samples page but I won't disclose proprietery logos or other special artwork against the customer's wishes.

Sizing Typefaces: When it comes to typefaces, not all sizes are created equal. Type size refers to the overall depth of the typeface, and includes a measure of space above and below the actual letter form. It is not to be confused with either x-height or the cap-height. This measurement of the type size is denoted by "the point".

The x-height and the cap height are dimensions that visually size a typeface. The x-height is the height of the lower case letter from the baseline of the text to the top of the body of the letter, without ascenders or descenders. The cap height is literally the height of the capital letter. (See typography image below)

The "x-height" of the face ARIAL in 14 point will be different from the "x-height" of a 14 point Garamond but yet they still have the same point size.

A few script faces, due to their design, require a large point size to equal the same display size of other typefaces of the same point size. (See image below for comparison.)

What size of typefaces will look the best? It's hard to say until I know the layout that is required by the builder. If you, the builder, have the ability with your computer system to lay out the decal first, do so, then you can see how the arrangement will look on the rod and that will help in determining what size to make the typefaces and the layout as a whole. Then FAX or email the layout as an attachment and I can produce the decal for you. If you still need help, I will be glad to assist as needed to make the best presentation I can based on the design submitted to me.
